This wedding excites me so much, because mustard yellow and grey are two of my favorite colours, and combined they are even better. It’s also full of DIY details that made me weak at the knees… So when I discovered Amanda’s wedding on Pinterest I just had to feature it on My Lovely Wedding. I sent Amanda a message, and the next day I got a reply and it all went from there. I love it when this sort of thing happens… 🙂 Amanda & Cole Peterson got married on the 9th February, 2013. It was a gorgeous winter wedding on the other side of the globe, in Utah, US. And the details are amazing!!!!
So here we go folks, here’s Amanda’s winter wedding… oh and it has snow in it too. Yay!!!
The wedding venue…
The wedding took place at the Mount Timpanogos Temple, in American Fork, Utah. The reception took place at Highland Gardens – a nursery in Highland, Utah
The planning process…
Mustard yellow is my favorite color. My living room is mustard yellow, my clothes are mustard yellow. And it is a winter color! So it went well with the snow.
Budget…
Our budget was $20,000.00, but we ended up using $11,000.00. That included the venue, the photographer, all the clothes, all the decorations, and the food.
My wedding dress…
My dress was from a cute little dress shop in Murray, Utah called Danielle’s. My shoes were from Etsy.
My bridesmaids…
My bridesmaids were my cousin, Aubree, and my 3 best friends, Lachelle, Chloe, and Alex. Their skirts and mustard shirts were from Target, their jackets were from Macy’s (at the mall), and their shoes were from Forever Young Shoes. They also had matching earrings from Etsy.
My flowers…
My flowers consisted of yellow Chrysanthemums, yellow Billy Balls, yellow Spider Mums, silver Brunia Balls, Dusty Miller (the silver leaves), white Asters (small filler flowers), mustard yellow Yarrow (wild filler flowers). My bridesmaid bouquets, and centerpieces were made up of mostly Baby’s Breath (I adore it). We made cones out of old book paper that we hung on the backs of the chairs and also filled with Baby’s Breath.
We made coffee filter flowers for the front of the cones. There were also some “standing” tables that had a silver vase with a few Billy Balls in it.
The wedding cake…
My father-in-law owns a bakery called “Bryson’s Bakery.” He made me a cream ruffle cake, which we put on a mustard yellow accent table.
Details/Decor…
We had a “live” photobooth going on the entire reception. They could hold a large vintage picture frame in front of them, and wear vintage hats as props. There is a link to the photobooth pictures here: http://petersonphotobooth.blogspot.com/
The centerpieces were placed on a cream mirror from Hobby Lobby. The centerpieces were made up of old books, a small green plant covered in glittery snow, mustard yellow tea lights, cream candlesticks with mustard candles, and a silver goblet filled with Baby’s Breath.
* The tablecloths switched off between a mustard yellow chevron pattern, and a vintage paris pattern.
* The backdrop was made up of “hanging vases” from Tai Pan, filled with mustard flowers.
*We served these food items at the reception: vegetables in glasses with dip in the bottom, a “Bruschetta Bar”, chocolate covered strawberries – including white chocolate coconut strawberries, homemade creampuffs made with real cream, strawberry shortcake cheesecake, vanilla cheesecake, and coconut shrimp on a glass filled with cocktail sauce.
*The Candy Stand: We painted an old armoire cream and antiqued it. We removed the back and hung an old window wrapped in twinkle lights. We had large mismatched candy jars filled with yellow sixlets, silver gumballs, yellow butterscotch candies, and silver hershey kisses. The candy was all purchased from Amazon.com. We also bought small silver chevron paper “to-go” bags from Etsy. We removed the cupboards below, and hung yellow chevron fabric instead.
The Honeymoon…My husband was in the Police Academy at the time (we couldn’t wait until he was done – we tried, I swear!), so we had a short honeymoon in a cozy hotel in Midway, Utah.
Advice for other couples…
Don’t stress. Even if everything is going wrong, it won’t matter to you on the actual day – you’ll be too happy! My dress was dragging through the mud the whole morning, and I was just too happy to be married to care at all.
My only regrets were that I picked so few bridesmaids. You won’t regret putting all your friends in the wedding, but you will regret leaving some out.
I guess I would have had people “patrolling” the food, and making sure everyone wasn’t taking A MILLION of everything.
YOU’RE GETTING MARRIED. Nothing else matters!
